Tolland County resident Everett Demers of Coventry died on Friday, Feb. 17 at the age of 49, according to his obituary.

Born in Worcester in 1974, Demers spent much of his childhood in Daytona Beach, Florida before coming back to New England in his late twenties where he worked for Abel Womack as a forklift manager and customer service manager.

After meeting his wife, Julie, in 2011 and marrying her in 2014, he then relocated to Coventry. It was there that he found a passion for volunteering for youth sports organizations such as baseball, football, and softball. As he grew more involved in these organizations, he came well-known as a man who would often take time to lend a helping hand.

"Everyone in town soon came to know Everett as the man that would drop what he was doing to help in any way possible whether it be as a player agent, a coach, an announcer, or working concessions," his obituary said.

Eventually, Demers' love of baseball deepened and he rose to the role of District 11 Administrator within the Connecticut State Little League, leading a district that included many leagues throughout Tolland, Windham, and New London counties.

In addition to volunteering for youth sports, Demers also served as a five-year Mason with the Ionic Lodge #110 AF&AM in North Windham, eventually also rising to the position of Senior Warden of the lodge.

Demers' friends knew him as a "generous and kind soul with a deep faith in God," his obituary said.

Coventry Youth Baseball Association President Karl Koenig mourned Demers' death in a post on social media, saying, "This is a huge loss to not only CYBA, but the entire Coventry community."

Demers is survived by his wife; his children and step-children Katie, Christian, Samantha, and Matthew; his grandchildren, Alisha Harley and Olive Jean; his mother, Mary; and numerous other family members.

A celebration of life for Demers will be held on Sunday, Feb. 26 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Masonic Lodge in Windham at 375 Boston Post Rd.
